Hunger Games: Gritty?

I recently read an article about the Hunger Games movie being gritty or not. The article asks that the movie not be gritty. I disagree. The reason Hunger Games stood from the crowd is because it WAS gritty. It was a sci-fi young adult book that still managed to be gritty and realistic. Monsters: Movie Review

This is a lot different from other movies. No this is not an alien sci-fi slasher. And there is not much monster screen time. The thing is, it is about illegal immigrants. Don't believe me? There is an "infected zone" and United States of America has built a wall protecting the borders. The "infected zone" takes up most of Mexico. We treat the "monsters" like crap. So if you have high hopes for this being a horror, still watch, because it has an important message to all racist Americans. B

Three Days Grace: One-X

As Three Days Grace's sophomore album, there were many things expected from this album. Their debut album wasn't very good, and was criticized for being so simplistic. Thankfully Three Days Grace cleaned things up a little. The songs are less generic, and was overall a good album. It remains their darkest album to date, and you can definitely let your anger out to a beat you can tap your foot to. B+

Nightmare: Avenged Sevenfold

Many Avenged Sevenfold fans were devastated to find out Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan died. This is their first album without him, and let me say, I think The Rev's death caused them to lose two points of awesomeness level. First of all, this album overall is great, but there are some really annoying songs on the album. First of all, I appreciate when bands try to go for slow songs once in a while. System of a Down did it successfully, and so did Three Days Grace, but what I've learned is that some bands just can't pull it off. The most annoying song in particular is So Far Away. I CANNOT stand it. Save Me was also a disappointment, and on top of that it was 11 minutes. Fiction was actually a slow song they could pull off, and it's about The Rev. Another complaint I had was the fact uses religious images in their music pretty unintelligently. They have a song called God Hates Us (hint hint) and in the song it states that God supposedly hates you if you sin. Hey A7X, do your homework by reading the bible a little.  God doesn't hate everybody who sins. Then they also have their famous Nightmare, which is in my opinion A7X's best song. They also showed off their heavier and darker side with God Hates Us. M. Shadows screams for the first time in like, what, 4 years? Just don't play this song in church. This album may have it's bad parts, but I think it's still worth it to get the whole album. B-

A Clockwork Orange Movie Review (May contain spoilers)

I read the novel before I saw the movie and I'm grateful for that. The book was so much better, but this movie is definitely a work of art. If you haven't heard of this movie, kiddies, it is the best movie of all time in my eyes. This probably isn't a popular choice for favorite movie for kids my age. The way that Alex, the main character, reflects on Beethoven's music is brilliant. You see, this young man is a fan of music, and is also an outlaw. Throughout the first half of the movie, he is killing and beating at his own will. He is then thrown into prison, and chooses experimental therapy. This therapy is based off of showing him violent movies to get him sick of violence. This works, especially after they use Beethoven's 9th Symphony in the score in one of the films. This makes him become very disturbed, as he bases his day around Beethoven. This movie was said to be very disturbing, which is true, except it doesn't live up to how they worded it to be. Unless you are sensitive to movies, of course. This definitely should be #1 on your Netflix queue if you haven't seen it already. Watch it. A+

Megamind Movie Review

I just recently got back from the movies. My family always sees the latest PG animated movies so you'll hear a lot about this kind of movie. This was a lot like other animated movies. Quirky, clean, occasionally smart, and a moral. I found it to be a lot like Despicable Me. (Bad guy being the good guy, hint hint) It also had a pretty good soundtrack with songs that related to the movie (Highway to Hell, Bad, etc.) I couldn't help thinking there should be Na Na Na by My Chemical Romance on the soundtrack. It had the same feel to a lot of the songs in the movie. Plus, it's about killjoys. Although it doesn't do anything very original, this is an animated movie that does things right. B

Silence of the Lambs - Movie Review

This is another good movie I wasn't alive to witness earlier. It's definitely a beautiful piece of art, in movie form. As people have probably told you before, Anthony Hopkins was brilliant in this film as Hannibal Lecter. Jodie Foster was amazing, too. Overall, it was just an outstanding movie. There is nothing wrong with it whatsoever. It may take a little while to get into but so what! It was suspenseful, the acting was great, and I couldn't stop watching. A

Rage Against the Machine - Album Review

This highly political album from the 90's is definitely all expectations for me. I'm young, so I wasn't even alive when this came out, but my awesome dad introduced me to these guys. This is definitely my favorite album at the time, and will be for a long time. It gives you a great adrenaline rush and still has meaning in their music. Some people have criticized bands for adding politics in their music is a bad idea, due to the fact that it's just yelling at a bunch of 12 year olds about something they don't understand. Rage isn't trying to start a militia, they are getting a point across with music. I'd recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Linkin Park or System of a Down so they can see where all these bands were inspired to become what they are now. A+
