The Muppets; Movie Review

Thanks to some optimistic motivational speaking, this blog is once again active. Well, the motivational speaking sparked it, but that's not the entire story. Mom brought up how I haven't posted on my blog, but it got me worried. M last post was the one where I stated it was inactive, but the catch was: I had posted a link to my YouTube channel. The last thing I needed was her finding about the channel, (which is flipping awesome btw) so I deleted the post. Then, I saw I had like, 8,000 pageviews, and I was like, "MOFO!!! 8,000 PAGEVIEWS!!!" And now my blog has been born again, and reimagined. First off, new ratings system. From fayul to fepic:
1. FAYUL!
2. SUCKS!
3. MEH.
4. PRETTY KEWL...
5. FEPIC
^^^^^^^^^^^ Pretty awesome if you ask me. So now, onto my first review in months. Of course, The Muppets. Going into this, the only thing I was familiar with Muppets was the "Mahna Mahna!" bit, which a genius accomplishment in cinema. (Teehee! Sarcasm!) Come to think of it, that was the only reason I went into this movie... <<< Scratch that. I wish I was cool enough to say that, but in actuality I was dragged to go see this on Thanksgiving. I was with family, and Harold and Kumar Christmas might not have been the best family movie, so we settled on this. The Muppets takes place pretty much in the real world where, like the real world, they aren't relevant anymore... BUT THAT'S ABOUT TO CHANGE!!!... or whatever. Now, let me tell you, I was a little disappointed. I was actually expecting this to be just overwhelmingly hilarious and original... and that BS. Hell, a tour de force for God's sake. Now, by no means is it bad. Just... fell short. IMO, it was, dare I say it, pretty boring until about the last 30 minutes of the film. The first hour is pretty much made up of puns and jokes only people who grew up with the Muppets would laugh at, and Jason Segel being a tool. (Which I'll get to later.) Don't get me wrong, there were a few things I loved in the first hour or so, but I only chuckled like twice. :/ My Mom loved it, considering she grew up with The Muppets. But I can't blame her. If they made an Invader Zim movie when I'm like thirty, I'll buy it blu-ray or Blu-ray 2000 or whatever the hell they'll have. I'll drag my kids to it, and condescend on them for not being exposed to the genius cartoons we had as a child. Another problem: Jason Freaking Segel. Nothing against him, but in this movie he pissed me off SO. FREAKING. MUCH. It feels like he's trying to be Mr. Rogers or some sh*t, and he can't pull it off.
Now that we've gotten all the bad stuff out of the way, or, in this case, the first hour of the film out of the way, we can move on. In the last 30 minutes of the film, they put on one big last show, and I can tell you it's hilarious. I mean, Zach Galifianakis makes an appearance, they rehash modern songs, OH! and Jack Black makes an appearance, and all the awesome stuff that should've been there earlier was here! And it became one of my favorite moments in cinema. I'm not even kidding.
In a nutshell, this movie has it's downs, but it certainly doesn't deserve a "MEH" so Pretty Kewl with be it's rating.
RATING: PRETTY KEWL!

The White House Band - The Stimulus Package EP - Album review

Wow, one great EP. Usually when I'm picking up an EP from a rather underground band, I don't get the incredible quality of The Stimulus Package. Wasup kicks off the album with a great instrumentals throughout. This song makes it clear they're not messing around, they have something to say. After that, there comes Grown-Ups, one of my favorites on the album. The song starts out with the line, "And now I'm so grown-up now."Although this one had to grow on me a little, it became a favorite of mine. It's a little slower than others, but that chorus is, believe me, anything but bad. And here comes Stay, the third track on the album. It has lots of its mix of classic rock and rap influences throughout. For example, the chorus really reminded me of the Pixies, etc. It maintains a mellow-ish attitude throughout which has the potential to not sound good for a rap-rock band, but these guys pulled it off. The 4th track, entitled Thats My Ish, doesn't sound as produced as others, but it seems like thats what they were aiming for, anyway. It reminds me of Rage Against the Machine like the others on this album, but this one felt a little different. Sky-High comes in with a cool guitar and some old-school rapping. Half way through the song it picks up a more techno beat that is epically awesome, and makes sure you listen to the whole song. After that, the bonus track called Yea, I Know F. Lerix, which may be the most complex song on this album. Making references to Medusa and it has probably the best chorus and beats on the album. In fact, it became my overall favorite. After it's done, I'm blown away. Although it isn't too original, it is probably one of the best EP I've listened to in a long time. Before I listened to this, I thought I would want to just go listen to some more Rage Against the Machine. But I was wrong. I want to listen to The White House Band.

Make Me Wanna Die by The Pretty Reckless: Single Review

Surprisingly good female vocalist.
Usually I don't expect much from just another Avril Lavigne-like mean girl. Although, this single blew me away. There's just something about how her voice handles the music so well, and it helps give the song some attitude that should get separated from the Avril/Paramore crowd. This song felt very well produced, and I hope her first album, "Light Me Up" lives up to her potential.

Note: For those wondering, Light Me Up will come out February 8th, 2011.

True Grit: Movie Review

This is easily one of my favorite movies of the year. Superb acting and actors, action-packed, and all-around a well-made film. What else is there to say? Jeff Bridges is awesome? The only thing that bugged me was I didn't like the actor who played the girl. Chloe Grace Moretz would have done better in my opinion. (That's just me) B+

Little Fockers; Movie Review

It did what a third movie is supposed to do. Without sucking that badly.
It's expected for third movie to do bad on its own. It's like, a movie trilogy's destiny. That some movies didn't have to follow. Toy Story didn't, Lord of the Rings didn't, Austin Powers... kinda didn't. So, is Little Fockers one of them? Or will it be thrown in the clearance bin along with The Ring 2? We'll find out. Meet the Parents was incredible. It had a cliche storyline and made it it's own, and proved to be hilarious. Then Meet the Fockers came and... it was fine. Just fine. And now here comes Little Fockers. It seems like they think that slicing a finger a finger open and letting it spray all over the family as "cute". Or maybe they think that the movie making comedy strategy, "It's not what it looks like." is an original story-telling technique. Even after all those things this movie still proves to be fun. Half of the jokes may be really stupid, but it made me laugh harder than any movie I'd seen this year. And that's saying something. I still think they could have survived without all the dirty jokes in the movie, because for me it went totally overboard. Overall, this is a FUN movie. It's not cute, or very smart for that matter, but it makes you laugh. HARD. B-

Tron: Legacy; Movie Review

Overdone and Underdone. Tron falls short of awesomeness.
We all know it's hard to make a film. People get that. But when you try too hard on one thing in a movie, it seems like you've ditched the other parts of the film that made up the movie. The director tries a little too hard on some stuff in this movie. For example, the effects had lots of... effort. There was proof there was effort put into it. A LOT of it. It proved to be too much. While you're watching, I feel like my eyes are about to spontaneously combust. Hey, better luck next time on a smaller screen, you glowing bike! Ok, that was stupid :-/. I also felt the film tried too hard sneaking religion into it. Long story short: God made Devil. Devil is bad. God has son. He is Jesus. Jesus is savior and only hope. And... that's how Tron pretty much goes. With glowey bikes in it. Which makes for a pretty bland story for anyone who's gone to Sunday School or church. I'm not going to give this an F, because this movie had effort put into it. I'll give it a....? C- I told you I could be generous!

Meet The Parents; Movie Review

Okay guys, I know this movie is old, but I just saw it and I really like it. It's about this guy who meets the parents of his girlfriend who he is planning to marry. The only problem is, he needs the parents' approval to marry her. And EVERYTHING goes wrong. This is a really funny movie but you end up feeling bad for the guy at the end. B

The Black Eyed Peas: The Beginning; Album Review

One of The Black Eyed Peas' best albums yet.
Before I review this album, let me say one thing. I am a HUGE  fan of The Black Eyed Peas. I could probably name all of their songs off the top of my head right now. No joke. Before The E.N.D. came out, I was really excited for the album. Well, I was disappointed. Instead of making music with original beats and nice vocals, they welcomed auto-tune to the party. I didn't really like the album, but I grew into it... kind of.  But this album didn't disappoint. They still had auto-tune, but I thought it was used a little better than the last album. This should definitely be on your list for downloading.
The album starts out with The Time (Dirty Bit), the hit single released before the album. It's another one of their partying songs with a good feel to them. Plus, they sampled part of a different song. Another highlight on the album is Love You Long Time. It's also another one of their love songs. The two best songs to me were XOXOXO and Do It Like This. XOXOXO is about how we can express love through technology, and the outcome was great. Do It Like This reminded me of Boom Boom Pow, a song that seemed to have no meaning at all, but had some meaning after all. (Even if the meaning was pathetic) And comes out as an awesome song.
Although I thought it was better than The E.N.D., I still thought it could use some more work. B

What to Download:
Hit single The Time (Dirty Bit)
Love You Long Time
XOXOXO
Do it Like This

Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys; Album Review

When I thought My Chemical Romance couldn't get any better...
Before I downloaded my pre-ordered copy of Danger Days, I had already listened to the album. The whole album was streaming live from Dr. Death's lab, (We'll talk about him later) on Youtube.  This was phenomenal for me, because I was so excited to hear this album. I felt like a total geek, staring at a computer for an hour watching Dr. Death's commentary and this amazing album. When I was done, I had know regrets. After that, I looked down at the comments, and it said 168 comments since you started viewing. (:|) I guess people were just as excited as me!
After looking at the album name, you may be wondering what the killjoys are. The killjoys are Party Poison, Kobra Kid, and Jet Star. (The three band members) Dr. Death is the DJ who hosted that listening party and appears once in a while on Danger Days. In the Na Na Na video and the SING video, it features the killjoys defeating enemies. Which can be very cool and cheesy at the same time. And then there is BLI (Better Living Industries) BLI is the enemy for the killjoys. Basically what BLI is is that they are people who want you to live your life the way they want you to. And, as you may guess, the most common answer is, "Screw that, I'm with the killjoys."
This was also a very important album for My Chemical Romance. They've matured. A lot. And so, instead of Gerard Way wearing all black clothing including his chin length black hair, along with crying about death, violence, and drugs, (Which proved to still be very entertaining) He is now an energetic classic punk rock band lead singer. Along with clown red hair, Han Solo boots, and an awesome costume. Instead of the usual depressing, dark, music, it's now an epic, absurd, fun, powerful, and exciting punk. Sounds great, right? That's because it is. My Chem has grown up. And no matter what you say, it's definitely for the better.
   And now, the songs.

Look Alive, Sunshine- This is the intro to the Na Na Na video. You may have heard it.

Na Na Na- Most My Chemical Romance fans have heard this one, and it's the same old sing along chorus with those amazingly intelligent lyrics! (I was being a little sarcastic)

Bulletproof Heart- At first I thought this song would be aimed at screaming fangirls, but I actually really like it. It almost makes it way to sounding like a ballad.

SING- Not my favorite, mainly because I thought it was pretty bland. I don't think this one deserved the single, but it's bearable.

Planetary (GO!) - Has a cool intro and it's a really in your face type of song.

The Only Hope for Me Is You - This song was released before the album, and it is definitely a highlight on the album. It has a great sense of hope, despite the song name.

Jet Star/ Kobra Kid Traffic Report - A few words from Dr. Death

Party Poison - This is a really energetic song and is one of my favorites. Really makes you want to jump up and fist pump like a champ.

Save Yourself, I'll Hold Them Back - This one was released at the MCR website and reminds me of their older music a little. With all the screaming and chanting of "RIGHT NOW!" and "WHO CARES!".

S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W - The best slow song in the album. At times the feel of the song can be a little depressing, but it's still pretty great.

Summertime - The only song I dislike... listen to it for yourself. I felt like they were trying to redo SING a little bit.

Destroya - My favorite song on the album. It is probably the most serious song on the album.

The Kids from Yesterday - This one is fine, but not really a highlight. It still is fun to listen to it knowing it's about Gerard maturing through his music.

Vampire Money - This one is funny and really good. It's probably the most fun on the album.

We Don't Need Another Song About California - This song is only available on the deluxe edition, and it makes getting the deluxe version worthwhile.

Overall, this is my favorite rock album of the year, but I think they could have done a little better. Mainly because I think the songs didn't flow together so well as they did in The Black Parade. But this one I still think is the most creative, and better, than most of My Chem's older music. No matter what fans of the older music say. A-

Edit: Here is the listening party streaming from Youtube.
